Rules of the Jungle

It was a bright sunny morning,
and he walked with a spring in each step.
The little white rabbit had no clue,
what was in his life ahead.
He reached near the river,
and saw a gorgeous little squirrel.
Ooops, she casted a spell on him,
he began to speak like a minstrel.

'Shall I talk to her, shall I not',he thought,
'What if I ask her, and get a NO'.
But the magic was working on him,
and he wouldn't let his better half go.
She looked at him and bent her head,
flickered her eyes, and gave a smile.
Gosh, he went all crazy,
he just loved her style.

They walked in the meadows,
they were savouring the bliss.
And when the rabbit had to leave,
she gave him his first kiss.
She didn't want to let him go,
she gave him red rose.
The moonshine was their only accomplice,
and love, brought them close.

Lost in their ecstasy they didn't recall,
the harsh Rules of the Jungle.
No matter how much they were in love,
their happiness was about to mangle.
'What if we were pigeons', she'd say,
'I would fly with you, I'll get through'.
It was her only wish she had expressed,
and he hated himself, as nothing he could do.

She would wear jasmine for him, she recalled,
She burst into tears, her heart spalled.
Rules were clear, protocols were tough,
A rabbit and a squirrel cannot be in love.
She wanted him, but Rules of the Jungle were numb,
He knew she loved him madly, and so he kupt mum.
They wanted a lot but neither would say,
All he would do is wait and pray.
